Background

A career built around the least invasive way forward.

Dr. Dhand was drawn to medicine after watching treatment change the lives of family members and friends growing up. He was particularly drawn to interventional radiology — a discipline where image-guided technology is used to perform procedures that, in earlier decades, would have required open surgery, longer hospital stays, and far more difficult recoveries.

That foundational philosophy — choosing the least invasive option that can effectively address a problem — runs through every procedure he performs at Valley Joint Pain Center. For chronic joint pain in particular, it means asking a different question than the one a patient typically gets asked. Not "are you ready for surgery yet?" but "is there a way to address what's causing your pain that doesn't require surgery at all?"

Research & teaching

Contributing to the field, not just practicing in it.

Beyond clinical practice, Dr. Dhand has been actively involved in advancing the field of interventional radiology through research, teaching, and conference leadership.

2023

Program Director, Western Angiographic & Interventional Society Annual Meeting

Palm Springs, CA · October 2023
Designed the program for one of the largest international gatherings of interventional radiologists, drawing physicians from around the world to share research and emerging techniques.
2021

Provocative Mesenteric Angiography for Lower Gastrointestinal Bleeding: A 12-Year Review

Journal of Gastrointestinal Surgery
Co-authored research demonstrating that patients positive on provocative angiography saw significantly fewer cases of recurrent bleeding within 30 days of treatment — informing best practices for managing difficult-to-localize GI bleeds.
Ongoing

Featured contributor, BackTable Vascular & Interventional Podcast

Discussions on epistaxis management, limb salvage, and emerging IR techniques
Active voice in the IR community on procedural techniques and the practical realities of running a busy interventional practice.
Special interests

Limb salvage, peripheral artery disease, embolization techniques

Areas of clinical and research focus
Substantial experience in vascular interventions including the embolization techniques that underpin Genicular Artery Embolization for chronic knee pain.
Outside the practice

Family, mountains, and machines.

When he isn't in the procedural suite, Dr. Dhand spends time with family, skis whenever the season permits, and maintains the kind of curiosity about technology and continuous learning that drew him to interventional radiology in the first place. He sees patients in both English and Spanish.
